Federal housing officials are working on regulations to ensure that homosexual couples are treated equally under government housing programs.

The Fair Housing Act forbids discrimination when it comes to selling and renting property, but it doesn't specifically protect gay, bisexual, and transgendered people.

A spokesman for the Department of Housing and Urban Development says the new regulations will also clarify that the term 'family' applies to gay couples.

No word on whether the new regulations will be used to force Christian landlords who work within federal programs to rent their property to gay couples.
