Congress' Approval Rating Reaches Record Low

Ad Feedback

Only 13 percent of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, setting the lowest approval rating in Gallup Poll history.

The previous low of 14 percent was taken in 2008 during the financial crisis.

The latest Gallup Poll, released Wednesday, also found that support for Congress declined regardless of party affiliation.

Sixteen percent of Democrats, 13 percent of independents and 7 percent of Republicans said they approve of the job Congress is doing. That's down from 38 percent, 16 percent and 9 percent in October.

At least 60 percent of respondents said the nation is losing ground in dealing with the federal budget deficit, jobs, and other financial issues.

Still, a majority of Americans -- about 55 percent -- said they believe 2011 will be better than 2010.
