Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., has been hospitalized after falling at his Cliffside Park home Monday night.
The 86-year-old Democrat is said to be doing fine and had to stay at the hospital overnight, according to spokesman Caley Gray.
"The senator is in great spirits and joking with the doctors," said Gray, who didn't know if the senator had fallen inside or outside the apartment or whether he had suffered any injuries.
Lautenberg is the first New Jersey senator to be elected to five terms.
He first came to prominence as chairman of Automatic Data Processing, a payroll services company he and two friends founded in 1952.
He had just returned Friday, Feb. 13, from a trip to Haiti with a congressional delegation.
