New York Gov. David Paterson is dropping his re-election bid just days after the Paterson formally announced his campaign.
The governor faces obstruction of justice allegations after reportedly trying to cover up a domestic violence case involving one of his top aides.
Many of paterson's fellow Democrats have been calling on him to drop out of the race, and after weeks of sounding tough and defiant he threw in the towel, Friday.
Paterson has been governor of New York since 2008, after former Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned in a prostitution scandal.
