Despite growing opposition, the Sept. 11 terror trials may still be held in New York near Ground Zero.
President Obama told CBN News he has not ruled out trying terrorist mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others in a U.S. federal court in Manhattan.
Obama said he is taking into consideration objections from New York's governor along with the city's mayor and police commissioner.
He defended his decision to hold the trials in New York, noting that the former Bush administration handled terror suspects arrested in the United States in the same way.
"They prosecuted 190 folks in these Article III courts, got convictions and those folks are in maximum security prisons right now. And there have been no escapes," Obama said. "And it is a virtue of our system we should be proud of."
