Some are calling it the "late night primary" as two Republican favorites for the 2012 presidential race battled it out for laughs this week.
Tuesday night, Sarah Palin was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno while The Late Show with David Letterman booked Mitt Romney. The result-- a mix of politics and funny one-liners.
Speaking to Romney, Letterman said, "So, sounds to me like you're going to run for president again in 2012."
"No. No plans for that yet," Romney answered.
"No, no. I can tell by the cologne," Letterman joked in response.
"What about that Sarah Palin? She's not ready to be president is she?" he asked later.
"She's terrific. She really is," Romney said. "She's got energy. She's got passion and by the way, be carefull what you say about her. She has a rifle you know."
Meanwhile, Palin drew laughs with Leno as she talked about the differences between California and her homestate.
"Alaska is so different from L.A," she said. "Here when people have a frozen look on their face, I find out it's Botox."
"It's so beautiful here," Palin continued. "It's so freezing back home. It was five degrees below Congress' approval rating."
And is Palin upset she didn't make it to Washington as vice president?
"I'm glad I'm not vice president," she told Leno. "Because the truth is, I don't know what I'd do with all that free time."
Neither Palin nor Romney have ruled our running for president in 2012.
