Thanksgiving is the perfect time for families to reflect on their blessings, and remember America's heritage.

In the book The Essential American: A Patriot's Resource, author Jackie Gingrich Cushman shares dozens of documents and speeches she feels every American should own.

The book includes copies of several historical artifacts, such as the Declaration of Indepence and the words of Ronald Reagan's famous "Tear Down This Wall" speech.

CBN News spoke with Cushman about the purpose of 'The Essential American,' and why the documents inside the book are still relevant today.
