In the West Virginia Senate contest, Democrat Gov. Joe Manchin defeated Republican challenger John Raese.
The Democratic win makes it very tough for Republicans to win enough seats to take the Senate.
This race wasn't supposed to be close because Manchin's approval ratings over 60 percent made him a supposed shoe-in for the seat vacated by the late Sen. Robert Byrd.
But anti-Obama sentiment fueled Raese's bid, giving the popular governor a late strong-run for his money.
