President Barack Obama's job approval numbers are at a record low.

A new Gallup poll shows the president's approval rating has dropped to 44.7 percent -- the lowest since Obama took office.

His popularity has also declined.

For the first time, more Americans view President Obama "unfavorably,' the poll found.

Obama has been on the campaign trail in an effort to shore up support for Democratic candidates before November elections.
