Boehner Says Congress Will Resolve Debt Crisis

Ad Feedback

WASHINGTON - House Speaker John Boehner says Congress will decide on "a responsible path forward" in the nation's debt crisis even though talks with the White House seem to be making little headway.

Boehner and three other congressional leaders met for less than an hour Saturday with President Barack Obama.

Boehner said in a statement afterward that House and Senate leaders will try to find a bipartisan solution to cut spending and "preserve the full faith and credit of the United States."

Officials say the nation's borrowing powers will expire Aug. 2 unless Congress raises the debt ceiling. Obama has warned the nation could default on its financial obligations.
