WASHINGTON -- Critics often say "Washington is broken," but rarely do you find anyone on the inside who explains how or why.
Sen. Jim DeMint is on a campaign to do just that by changing the culture of the U.S. government.
The South Carolina Republican says America is "the greatest country in the world" and is engaged in "a fight to preserve its freedoms."
Considered one of the most conservative lawmakers in the Senate, DeMint is an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, big government, and out-of-control spending.
His commitment to conservative principles and his crusade against earmarks have also pitted him against members of his own party, making DeMint an outsider among the Washington establishment. But he has become a welcome, leading voice within the Tea Party.
In his new book, The Great American Awakening, DeMint recounts the rise of the Tea Party movement and his fight to regain voters' trust by rebuilding a reformed Republican Party.
In the 2010 midterm election cycle, DeMint bucked the system by endorsing unknown and under-funded candidates, against the wishes of party leaders.
His political action committee raised millions to help put five new conservative faces in the Senate.
Now, he's working to add many more in the 2012 campaign, those who'll join in what he calls "the freedom agenda" to save and protect America's future.
Sen. Jim DeMint will talk with CBN News about his plan for Washington and tackling America's economic issues, on Wednesday's "The 700 Club." Check your local listings for show times. Also, stay with CBNNews.com for the complete interview after 11 a.m. ET.
