Warren Cancels Presidential Forum, Citing Incivility

Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren has cancelled the civil forum between President Obama and GOP presumptive nominee Mitt Romney.

Warren said the forum's purpose is to promote civility and respect. He noted, however, that the current climate of the presidential campaign doesn't reflect those values.

"I've never seen more irresponsible personal attacks, mean-spirited slander, and flat-out dishonest attack ads, and I don't expect that tone to change before the election," The Orange County Register quoted Warren.

"It would be hypocritical to pretend civility for one evening only to have the name-calling return the next day," he added.

Both presidential campaigns said their candidates had not committed to attend the event.

Saddleback's last presidential forum featured Obama and Arizona Sen. John McCain.
