Supporters of Israel are concerned that President Barack Obama may choose former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to run the Pentagon.
Opposition among Senate Republicans appears to be growing. They question his pronouncements on Israel and the Middle East.
Hagel has voiced support for negotiations with Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group sworn to destroy Israel.
He was one of only 12 senators who refused to petition the European Union to declare Hezbollah a terror organization and one of only four who refused to sign a letter in support of Israel.
The former senator also voted against sanctions on Iran.
If nominated, Hagel must be confirmed by the Senate.
