The White House is calling for increased spending on the nation's electric power system.
The cost of weather-related power outages is on the rise as storms in the United States grow more severe and the electric grid gets older.
The White House said spending money to make the grid stronger and more flexible will save the economy billions.
Power outages cost $18 billion to $33 billion per year. Thunderstorms, hurricanes, blizzards, and other extreme weather caused 58 percent of all outages since 2002.
