Federal Reserve Bank Celebrates 100 Years

The Federal Reserve Bank commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the signing of the Federal Reserve Act Monday.

The ceremonial event included words from chairman Ben Bernanke and former chairmen Alan Greenspan.

"Dispassionate analysis, expertise and commitment to public service - all are values that have served us well," Bernanke said. "But one value that strikes me as having been at least as important as any other has been the Federal Reserve's willingness, during its finest hours, to stand up to political pressure and make tough but necessary choices."

The ceremony comes as investors grow more concerned about the Fed's super-low interest-rate policies.

Many experts also say stocks are at unsustainable prices and an economic reckoning lies ahead.

Still, some economists believe the Fed will likely hold off on its bond purchase program aimed at holding down interest rates to spur hiring and investment.
