Pastor Rick Warren called President Obama's birth control coverage mandate a direct attack on religious liberty, saying the U.S. Supreme Court will strike it down.
"The audacity of the government telling the Church how to do health care -- we've been doing it longer than any government!" Warren said.
Warren, who pastors Saddleback Church in California, made his remarks at a forum on religious liberty at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
He noted that if the birth control mandate remains in place, his church's health clinic would be required to cover abortifacients in its health plan, even though he believes abortion is immoral.
In 2012 Warren told ABC News that "The issue here is not about women's health . . .there is a greater principle, and that is do you have the right to decide what your faith practices?"
At the forum, he also said that if pastors are barred from praying at public functions because of their beliefs about homosexuality, then 99 percent of American pastors will be excluded.
