Four Democratic senators are asking President Obama to have the Environment Protection Agency cut back on some of its regulations.
The rules set new standards for power plants that use coal. The senators are from coal states, and West Virginia's Joe Manchin is one of them.
"Not only would this rule have a devastating effect on our coal production, this rule would endanger the reliability and sustainability of our electricity supply," the Democratic lawmaker wrote.
The coal industry and its supporters have criticized the EPA for unfairly targeting coal.
