President Barack Obama is calling for a push to pass immigration reform before the end of the year.
"We should pass immigration reform. It's good for our economy. It's good for our national security. It's good for our people. And we should do it this year," Obama said Thursday.
The president is urging lawmakers to see it as an opportunity to show Americans the government can actually solve problems.
The Senate passed a bill in June, but it's been stalled in the House of Representatives. Speaker John Boehner said he believes the House can take action before 2014.
However, many House Republicans aren't ready to support the president's plan. No sweeping immigration legislation has been passed since 1986.
