Religious liberty, abortion, and the sanctity of marriage are some of the hot-button issues topping the agenda at this weekend's Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C.
It's one of the lead conservative conferences of the year and sponsored by the Family Research Council.
FRC president Tony Perkins began the summit Friday, quoting the Declaration of Independence.
"'Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,' he quoted the Colonial-era document. "They don't have our consent to take our freedoms and our liberties, and that message will be sent this week."
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, also spoke Friday, urging GOP lawmakers to persevere in their fight over the budget.
"None of us know what's going to happen on this Obamacare fight," he told the audience. "In my view, the House of Representatives needs to keep doing what it's doing, which is standing strong."
