Bill Blocking Nazi Benefits Awaits Obama Signature
12-31-1969
The U.S. Senate is sending a bill to President Barack Obama to block suspected Nazi war criminals from receiving Social Security benefits.
Members gave final congressional approval late Thursday.
The measure will close a loophole that has allowed suspected Nazis to be paid millions of dollars in benefits.
With the president's signature, the law would end benefits for those who have lost their American citizenship.
In October, an Associated Press investigation revealed benefits have been paid to dozens of former Nazis even after they were forced out of the country.
