President Barack Obama is poised to ask Congress to authorize the use of military force to fight the Islamic State.

That request may come Tuesday and it would lead to debate on exactly how to attack the Sunni extremists, who've seized territory in Iraq and Syria.

In the end, that would lead to the first war vote in Congress in 13 years.

Congress passed a resolution authorizing President George W. Bush to use force against Iraq in 2002.
