Lawmakers are returning to Washington as Republicans gear up to take control of Congress Tuesday. It's the first time the GOP will control both the House and Senate in eight years.

Republicans will use the opportunity to try to rein in President Barack Obama's liberal agenda during his last two years in office.

Near the top of their agenda: targeting Obamacare and the president's recent immigration executive action that kept millions from being deported.

They will also work to strengthen U.S. foreign policy on Iran while pushing for a more confrontational strategy against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

But House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, will also face his own challenge from Tea Party Republicans.

They've argued for years that Boehner should have done more to counteract Obama's excessive spending and investigate his potential abuses of power.

Conservatives are already signaling their plans to make waves by trying to replace Boehner as speaker.

Tea Partyer Rep. Louis Gohmert, R-Texas, has said he will challenge Boehner for the position when the House votes for its leader on Tuesday. But Gohmert's bid is not expected to succeed.
