Carson Addresses National Debt, Taxes at Liberty U.

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson asked Liberty University students to pray for  his "courage" and "protection"  at the school's convocation Wednesday morning.

Thousands packed the university's Vines Center to hear what the Republican front-runner had to say.

Carson addressed the fact that he doesn't have the normal qualifications of a president.

"All of the political professionals were saying, 'Carson run for president? Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. He's not connected to any of the money, he doesn't know anything, he's never been elected to public office, it's impposible, don't even think about it.'"

"And I said, 'Whew, I'm glad to hear that,' but it kept going and I finally said, 'Lord, this was not on my bucket list, but if You truly want me to do this -- all the pundits say it's impossible, but nothing is impossible for you so if you open the doors I will walk through them.' And He began opening the doors," said Carson.

Much of his speech focused on taxes and the ever-growing national debt.

"I mean, $18 plus trillion of national debt, think about that. If you tried to pay that off at a rate of $10 million a day it would take you more than 5,000 years and we're putting that on your backs," Carson told students.

When asked to give one piece of advice to the Liberty students, Carson quoted : "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths."

Carson asked for prayer for protection and for the eyes of the nation to be opened to what's going on in Washington.
