Senate Democrats now have enough votes to filibuster attempts to block President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.

Now 42 Democratic senators have announced their support for the deal after four new senators came out in favor of it Tuesday.

Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., blasted the White House for pressuring Democrats to support the president's Iran agenda.

"For many this has been a very difficult decision; for some it was made even more difficult by assertions from the administration that the only choice was between this agreement and war. Of course, that was never, never true," McConnell said.

Senate Republicans, and four Senate Democrats, oppose the deal. Many of them argue it gives Iran too much freedom to pursue its nuclear agenda, increasing the chances for war in the future.

They were hoping to pass a measure this week opposing the deal, but it now looks uncertain whether the Senate will get to vote at all.

"We certainly would expect that those members of Congress who support the agreement to take the necessary steps in Congress to prevent Congress from undermining the agreement," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said the Iran deal will only allow the Islamic regime in Tehran to grow more dangerous.

"President Obama's agreement will provide Iran with funds and weapons the regime will use for the support of terror, the dominance of the Middle East, and the furtherance of Tehran's effort to destroy Israel, threaten Arab regimes, and prevent the United States from defending our allies and our interests in the Persian Gulf and beyond," Cheney said Tuesday.

Cheney pointed out Iran has made it clear what their intentions are, and the Obama administration shouldn't make a deal with a country that threatens America's destruction.

"They have placed on the table for Congressional review a deal that provides weapons and funds to a regime that has pledged to destroy Israel and maintains death to America as its central pillar of its policies," he said.
