Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, won this year's presidential straw poll at the Family Research Council's 10th annual Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., this weekend.

He finished with 35 percent of the vote, followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson in second place with 18 percent.

Many Republican presidential contenders made their way to the stage, courting conservative Christian voters.

The conference was also a chance to hear from some prominent Christians who have made headlines for their stand to defend religious liberty.

One of those was Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who went to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. She received the Cost of Discipleship Award.
