Rick Santorum has suspended his 2016 presidential bid, according to multiple media outlets.

The Washington Times reports Santorum plans to both leave the race and make an endorsement Wednesday evening.

The former Pennsylvania senator has been unable to gather momentum during his campaign, finishing second-to-last in the crowded Republican field at the Iowa Caucus Monday night.

Like other candidates, Santorum has struggled to catch voter support in the shadow of Donald Trump. Many of the evangelical votes he had gathered in the 2012 presidential campaign have gone to other candidates like Ted Cruz.

Santorum's platform mainly aimed at blue collar workers, promised a reigning in on government spending and fighting on behalf of the American worker.

"It's time to revitalize manufacturing, processing, construction and energy sectors of our economy again so America can once again thrive," his campaign website said.
