Jarkarta Prays for Spiritual 'Earthquake'

CWN.org - JAKARTA, Indonesia - These Christians are praying for a spiritual earthquake that will change the earth.

It's only appropriate, since they come from nations that suffer more natural disasters than most.

Nations that make up the so-called ring of fire have more volcanoes and suffer the harshest earthquakes.

Philippine pastor, Jerome Ocampo, helped organize this prayer gathering, called the "Ring of Fire Convergence."

He believes that these people -- who have experienced a lot of devastation in their own countries -- are crying out of desperation.

"The Ring of Fire will cultivate from that desperation and bring in a hunger for God," he said. "We unite the small pockets of revival to produce a greater move of God. Ignite prayer, reach out to other nations."

Here in Indonesia, Christians suffer more from persecution than natural disasters.

This is the most populous Muslim nation in the world, and small churches are periodically attacked and burned down by Muslim hardliners.

Recently, a Pentecostal house church in Jakarta was attacked during an Independence Day worship service.

Pastor Chris Ambessa says the attack came after he failed to comply with an agreement he signed to close down his church

"I was forced to sign the agreement because they threatened to burn our house and I was afraid for my three little children," he said. "As a citizen of this country, I feel sad because our human rights are violated. The Church has no freedom to worship and it is only the Muslim fundamentalists who take control. But with God's help, I will still fight for a church in this place.

Prophet Cindy Jacobs says that an alliance like the ring of fire strengthens the church to be strong and overcome in times of great persecution.

"Here we are in Indonesia and it's a miracle that we have freedom to meet," she said. "And I believe from Indonesia, God is raising a generation of young reformers who will say I am going to change the face of the earth."

Another miracle is the dedication of the Sentul City Convention Center.

This $30 million building seats 12,000 people.

Because it is almost impossible for a church to receive a building permit, the GBI Bethany church is designated a convention center. But miraculously, the permit also allows the church to hold its services here.

This massive structure behind me is phenomenal, not only because of its massive size, but more so because of its purpose --a house of prayer for all nations and a center for transformation here in Indonesia and the entire world.

The rise of such megachurches in Indonesia is just one evidence that God is working in this predominantly Muslim nation, despite the strong anti-Christian sentiment.

While the convergence of prayer by Christians from several asian nations is a strong signal that christians are working together to participate in that work.
