Baseball star Andy Pettitte reported to spring training Tuesday, on the heels of his admission that he took human growth hormone.
The left-handed New York Yankees pitcher held a news conference yesterday, apologizing for the embarrassment he caused and to the kids who looked up to him, like those at his church.
Pettitte said he questioned his use of HGH almost immediately after taking it. He credited his faith for helping him stop.
"God knows my heart," he said. "I know that I'm going to have to stand before Him one day, and that's why I felt like you have to tell the truth...even though the truth hurts sometimes."
Pettitte said he took HGH to recover from an injury. He added that he hopes to remain friends with former trainer Brian McNamee and Roger Clemens who testified last week that he had never used performance enhancing drugs.
