In Sterling, Kansas residents have shed more than 600 pounds in the name of fitness.
The local wellness center started the fitness competition to keep people on track through the holidays, but the event has caught on in a big way.
"Starting out the first of the year without having a resolution to lose weight, we're already well on our way," Sterling resident, Julie Gellerman, said
Participants were divided into twenty teams about three weeks ago, and have been reporting for scheduled weigh-ins ever since.
They even have to pay up for weight gain - a dollar per pound - which means lots of teasing about candy bars and pizza delivery.
While the grand prize is only $450, residents say it's more about building a lifestyle for life.
"It's nice to have wives coming in here and telling me, 'my husband looks so good now,'" said trainer Kurt Thomas.
The big winner will be announced Jan. 28.
