CBNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Career diplomat James Cunningham will replace outgoing US Ambassador to Israel Richard Jones, who ends his three-and-a-half years in Israel on July 11.
Cunningham, who last served as US consul general in Hong Kong, comes to the region with limited background in regional issues, other than what he learned during his tenure as deputy US ambassador to the UN.
Cunningham, who will assume his post in mid-August, will tender his resignation in January when the new president is sworn in.It's likely the resignation will just be a formality, and he will continue in his post.
Meanwhile, Jones leaves the State Department to become deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency, headquartered in Paris.
