Many are preparing for Memorial Day by honoring fallen comrads from the past.
Military personnel are in Washington, D.C. to place thousands of American flags on each of the headstones at Arlington National Cemetery.
It is the resting place for more than 260,000 veterans from all of the nation's wars.
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was first observed in 1868 to commemorate the sacrifice of Civil War soldiers.
But today, the holiday honors all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to their country.
