IRS: Thousands Didn't Get Child Credit

The Internal Revenue Service is continuing to send out those tax rebates. But hundreds of thousands of taxpayers may not be getting their full share.

The IRS says taxpayer mistakes as well as problems with commercial tax preparation software is responsible for preventing up to 350,000 Americans from receiving the $300 child credit due to them. The child credit is one part of an economic stimulus plan passed by Congress earlier this year.

Those who missed out on the refund by mistake have already been identified, IRS spokesman Terry Lemons said.

He added that checks for those child credits are scheduled to be mailed out in July and that there is no need to contact the IRS or file any additional paperwork.

Roughly 30 million taxpayers have received about $27 billion in refunds already from the IRS.

And it is expected that 130 million taxpayers will receive a slice of the government's $168 billion "economic stimulus" plan by the end of June.
