Actor Kirk Cameron's latest movie Fireproof has turned out to be a surprise hit at the box office this fall season.

Fireproof is the story of a man who is a hero at work but at home, he's watching his marriage go up in flames. The movie was produced by brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, pastors at The Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. The brothers are also the creators of Facing the Giants, another surprise faith-based hit.

The movie has a strong faith-based message and was made with a budget of just $500,000 with a volunteer cast that includes Cameron.

Its opening on 839 screens two weeks ago was strong enough to propel it to No. 4 at the box office. It has stayed in the top 10 since its opening and has earned an estimated $13.6 million.

The movie also spawned a best-selling book The Love Dare, written by the Kendricks and was No. 8 on Amazon's best-seller list this week.
