The House of Representatives is considering a new hate crimes bill.
The law would add homosexual and trans-gender people to the list of classes federally protected from hate crimes.
Critics fear that if it's passed, pastors who speak out against homosexuality as a sin could be charged with a hate crime.
Christians in England, Sweden and Canada have been prosecuted under these types of laws.
Supporters, though, say the law would apply to violent crimes only, and would not infringe on free speech.
