Pro-life license plates are the latest battlefield in the national debate over abortion.

At least 18 states have approved plates with the message "Choose Life."

But many states are denying the plates to avoid controversy. Several court cases around the country have yielded vastly different reasons for denying the plates.

Some judges see "choose life" as a political statement. Others say slogans are simply not permitted on plates.

Still other rulings say if the state allows the Choose Life plates, they must also accept pro-abortion plates.
