Christmas is usually a time when children receive gifts. But one little girl from Middleton, Wis. has found a selfless way to give to others this Christmas season.
In 2007, Ally McCreary, now 11, told her parents she wanted to help others in need. Her generosity came despite her family's own financial difficulties.
Ally's father was unable to return to work after being injured in an accident in January, Middleton's WKOW-TV reported. The loss of income forced the family to sell their home and move to an apartment.
Ally's mother Chris McCreary recalled, "She stated to me, 'You know mom, it is so bad for us, and yet we're together. We have a roof over our heads, and it's worse for other people, and we have to do this.'"
With her parents' help, she is posting toys on a Web site called Freecycle. The giveaways include some of Ally's personal possessions along with toys she purchased with her own money.
"It's keeping Santa alive for other kids, and it makes me feel really good," Ally said. "That made me feel good that I knew that kids were going to have a Christmas and have something to open on Christmas."
Ally said she hopes to give toys to more than 120 kids this year.
