Despite the recent tragedy, more than 50,000 troops at Fort Hood, Texas, are expected to celebrate the holidays at a special community event, Friday.
"Fort Hood Community Strong" will bring family and friends together for fun and healing through concerts and entertainment at the military base.
A Christmas tree lighting ceremony took place Tuesday night, along with performances by carolers and Santa Claus.
"Community Strong" organizers said they wanted to use the event to "uplift the spirits of the Fort Hood community in the wake of the Nov. 5 shooting incident."
Gunman Nidal Malik Hasan has been charged with murder for the rampage that left 13 soldiers dead and 30 others wounded.
