A Fort Hood medical unit that lost three soldiers during the shooting rampage last month is deploying to Afghanistan.
Nearly 25 percent of the 467th medical detachment was either killed or injured in the shooting.
Soldiers from around the country volunteered to fill those missing spots so the unit could deploy on schedule.
Their job in Afghanistan is to counsel soldiers in combat zones.
The Fort Hood shooting suspect Major Nidal Hasan was part of the unit and scheduled for this deployment.
