Candy canes are a familiar holiday tradition many American families enjoy.

Carrying on the time honored tradition is the Vrinios family who has been manufacturing the red and white confection for more than 100 years.

Each year the Illinois family crafts over 10,000 candy canes.

"Sometimes you'll see a 70 year old man say he never seen it before, and I'm thinking well you know, you think he would have somewhere along the line," candy maker Peter Vrinios told IllinoisHomepage.net.

"And the kids they're excited about it, and amazed," he added. "I mean we could tell them it's magic and they'd believe it probably."

The family is said to be the only candy manufacturers to be making these treats by hand.
