Grand Theft Auto Continues Amoral Tone

Ad Feedback

The original version of Grand Theft Auto IV takes place in Liberty City, a takeoff on New York City. The game follows a Russian immigrant named Nikko Belik as he comes to the U.S. to live the American dream. But Nikko quickly finds out that the experience isn't exactly how his cousin told him it would be.

The New Game Expansion

Now, Grand Theft Auto IV has released its first game expansion: The Lost and The Damned. The GTA series is one of the original sandbox games, a game that allows you to go anywhere and do anything, in any way you would like.

And I mean anything - kill, rob, highjack cars, and more seedier ventures not fit for print. But the expanded edition takes this amoral tone to another level.

GTA Tradition

The expanded edition lives up to the GTA name with a lot of tongue-in-cheek antics and crass humor. Rockstar, the games developer, definitely takes things to the extreme with this add-on.

Johnny Klebitz, the main protagonist, is a part of a biker gang called "The Lost." As a member of the gang he does various "odds and ends," from killing people, to stealing cars, and making money for various groups of corrupt people. One such person is a mayoral candidate named Mr. Stubbs.

The Full Monte

In one sequence, you meet with the would-be mayor as he is getting a massage. The candidate sends his people out of the room before sitting up and taking his towel off. As the characters talk to each other, the camera continually teases towards the man's genital region. This is nothing different than you would see on some prime-time shows or a PG-13 movie.

But as the conversation comes to an end you get the big surprise - the scene cuts to a wide shot of the candidate in all his glory. For obvious reasons Rockstar is maintaining it's mature rating for the game.

Once again, this shows that these games are meant for the 18 and up crowd.

Parents Be Aware

The Grand Theft Auto series is a mature-rated series and is not meant for younger audiences. They contain violence, coarse language, prostitution, theft, alcohol use - it runs the gamut of immoral behavior.

Rockstar Games has even stated that this series is not intended for younger audiences and that the series takes a satirical look at society.

Be advised that there is nudity in the game. This it is one that kids want to play, but be advised that it is not recommended.
