Can common ground be found on ending the culture war in America? A group called Third Way believes it can make a difference.
At a press conference in Washington D.C, the group met with top officials for President-elect Barack Obama. They presented a legislative plan for tackling hot button issues, especially abortion and gay rights.
The blueprint is called, "Come Let Us Reason Together Governing Agenda" and has four main components.
The first component will reduce abortions through common ground policies. This addresses the circumstances that lead to abortion, such as supporting pregnant women.
The second part aims at protecting the rights of gay and lesbian people to earn a living. The group cites The Golden Rule as a standard in relation to fairness for all despite sexual orientation.
Renouncing torture will also be a policy implemented to reduce inhumane or degrading treatment of prisoners.
The final policy of the blueprint involves developing secure and comprehensive immigration reform. Creating an earned path to citizenship and securing U.S borders will be included in this effort.
Third Way includes religious leaders ranging from liberal to moderate to even conservative evangelicals.
