An elderly couple held hostage in their own home said God's presence gave them peace in a horrifying ordeal.
Robert and Francis Belote were held hostage for nearly nine hours after a gunman broke into their home in Leesburg, Va.
The burglar was fleeing from a failed jewelry store robbery, but the Belote's responded with kindness.
"He drank a whole pitcher of tea, and I gave him food and then he started to calm down," Francis said.
"We were talking and I said, 'You know, you got yourself in a lot of problems, a lot of trouble here,'" Robert added. "He said, 'I know'. And finally, he just gave up."
The gunman is now in police custody and the Belote's said they are putting the incident behind them as they look forward to celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary.
