South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says it's time for private family time, as he, his wife and four sons head to London for vacation.
Sanford hopes the two-week trip will help repair some of the damage made after he publicity admitted having an affair.
The governor said he and his wife, Jenny, had the trip to Europe planned for some time.
The couple had just returned, Monday, to South Carolina after several days away to work on their marriage.
"The whole process of redemption and forgiveness, grace and growth is slow. It's incremental," he said. "It's a process of healing, but I think that's something we have to deal with as a family."
Despite calls from opponents for his resignation, Sanford plans to finish the remainder of his term.
