Late CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite was considered "the most trusted man in America."
Back then, Americans had a much higher opinion of the news media than they do today.
Earlier this year, an NBC-Wall Street Journal poll revealed only 8 percent of Americans had a "great deal" of confidence in the media, while 18 percent said they had "no confidence at all."
The numbers are almost the exact opposite of what they were in 1976 -- in the wake of the Watergate scandal.
