WASHINGTON -- The mainstream media are portraying the racist anti-Semite who shot a guard to death Tuesday at the Holocaust Museum as a sort of extreme right-wing ultra-conservative.
But it appears James Von Brunn's beliefs were quite a bit more complicated -- and included hating Christianity, George W. Bush and many other conservatives.
It's no surprise Von Brunn's one-man attack on the Holocaust Museum involved the shooting of a black security guard -- his latest written rantings show him to be a racist and anti-Semite who vigorously hate both blacks and Jews.
"This seemed to be James von Brunn's new view of things. And he was saying we need to kill the Jews before the Jews kill us," White Nationist John de Nugent said.
A note in Von Brunn's car said, "The Holocaust is a lie. Obama was created by the Jews. Obama does what his jew owners tell him to do."
"It just fits into the model of the Jews and the others that control his life and the life of Americans, which is really the classic kind of stuff," said Kenneth Jacobson, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League.
"(It is) based on this concept of excessive Jewish power, the protocols of the elders of Zion, which was an old document forgery attributing to the Jews efforts to take over the world. This is what we call traditional classic anti-semitism," he said.
But some in the media have linked Von Brunn to groups like pro-life protestors and others sometimes branded as "right-wing extremists."
But Von Brunn made common-cause with many left-wing extremists.
He hated George W. Bush and the neo-conservatives that so influenced the president. He espoused 9/11 conspiracies. And his writings, dug up by Christian and conservative bloggers and online journalists, show he also hated Christianity.
He wrote on antichrist.net --
"The Big Lie technique, employed by Paul to create the CHRISTIAN RELIGION, also was used to create the HOLOCAUST RELIGION ... CHRISTIANITY AND THE HOLOCAUST are HOAXES. "Christianity" destroyed Roman Civilization. The "Holocaust" Religion is destroying Western Civilization."
Antichrist.net has dumped Von Brunn's writings from its Web site, but he also reportedly wrote there --
"As duped Aryan sheep begin to understand the 'Holocaust' they also begin to better understand Christianity. Both have similar origins. Both have identical objectives.... The New Testament was written in Greek. Paul - who believed the World was flat, that Joshua made the sun stand still, and Jehovah spoke from a burning bush -- wrote one-third of it, perhaps more. The events described in the 24 Books are often contradictory, fail the time-line, defy both archaeology's and nature's immutable laws, and are suicidal if practiced."
Von Brunn's words show those who quickly lump conservative Christians in with extremist anti-Semites and racists don't understand those extremists often hate Christianity just as much as they hate Jews and other minority groups.
