Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg told law students Friday that there will be a vacancy on the high court in the near future.
She didn't indicate who might be leaving.
But there is speculation that 88-year-old John Paul Stevens and 69-year-old David Souter will retire soon.
Stevens has said he enjoys his work. He has hired law clerks for the term begining in October.
Souter has yet to hire his clerks, but he's usually the last to do so.
Spectulation also surrounds Ginsburg, 76, who had cancer surgery just last month.
