Jury selection starts Monday for a Kansas doctor charged with performing 19 illegal late-term abortions.
George Tiller faces charges that he had an illegal financial relationship with a physician who authorized late-term abortions that Tiller performed in 2003.
If convicted, Tiller could face one-year in prison and $2,500 fine for each of the counts.
Kansas state law forbids abortions after 22 weeks of pregnancy except when a woman's health is seriously jeopardized. Then, two independent physicians must sign off on the procedure.
The second physician was not charged because the law applies to the physician performing the abortion.
Both pro-life and pro-choice activists are planning to be out in full force demonstrating during the trial.
Testimony is expected to begin a week from Monday.
