Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty Dead at 57

Oklahoma mega-church pastor Billy Joe Daugherty has died.

He was 57.

Daughterty had been battling lymphoma after it was discovered in October during a test for a viral infection.

He founded the Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma nearly 30 yearly ago. The church's membership now totals 17,000.

His ministry reached millions. Daugherty was also the founder of the Victory Christian School and started more than 900 Victory Bible Institutes in 93 countries. His Victory World Missions Training Center has sent thousands of missionaries around the world.

His television show, "Victory in Jesus," reached more than 100 million households in North America.

He and his wife, co-pastor Sharon Daugherty, wrote more than a dozen books.

The church's annual conference, Word Explosion, also brought some of the top charismatic preachers to Tulsa every summer.

Originally from Magnolia, Ark., he graduated Oral Roberts University with a bachelor's degree in Christian education.

He is survived by his wife and four children. 

A memorial service is planned for Nov. 30.
