Federal prosecutors have seized four mosques and a New York City skyscraper in what could be one of the largest counter-terrorism seizures in U.S. history.
The buildings are owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization that was long suspected of being controlled by the Iranian government.
CBN News Terrorism Analyst Erick Stakelbeck appeared on the Friday edition of the CBN Newschannel's Midday program to give his analysis on the seizures and the trials of terrorists in New York. Click play to watch the interview.
The group is known as Alavi and it's believed to be funneling money into Iran's nuclear program.
Federal agents seized Islamic centers in Maryland, Texas, Virginia, and California -- where neighbors have suspected something was wrong for years.
CBN News spoke with one neighbor, who asked his face not be shown on camera.
"They're very bizarre," the neighbor said. "They're from Iran. They're very secretive. They do what they want to do and they thumb their nose at our laws and everything else."
A leader of the Islamic Center of Houston says his organization is independent, and not affiliated with any of these other groups.
