Suspected terrorist Najibullah Zazi has been indicted for the charge of attempting to detonate explosives in the United States.
He is one of three men charged in a suspected terror plot that are scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday.
Zazi, 23, along with his father, Wali Mohammed Zazi, have detention hearings in Denver. Imam Ahmad Afzali has a hearing in New York City.
Last week, all three men were charged with "knowingly and willfully making false statements to the FBI in a matter involving international and domestic terrorism."
According to court filings, authorities are investigating Zazi, Afzali and others "in the United States, Pakistan and elsewhere, relating to a plot to detonate improvised explosive devices" in the U.S.
Now a criminal complaint indicates NYPD officers may have botched the investigation. The report suggests the NYPD acted without the FBI knowledge when officers questioned Afzali.
They say the New York imam then turned around and tipped off Zazi, who authorities suspect as the ringleader.
